Top 10 Books to Give as Gifts

1. Bibles. We gave our oldest this Princess Bible (NKJV) a few years ago once she learned to read fluently on her own. Now I'd really like to give her this one:

We love to give Bibles or devotional books as gifts.

2. For the Austen lover (and really, shouldn't everyone be?), this six volume illustrated set looks fantastic. I also love the embroidered cover edition of Emma, although it doesn't appear to be available on Amazon.

3. A Complete set of The Chronicles of Narnia is a must for any family library. I'm not crazy about the "movie tie-in" editions but they'd be better than nothing.

4. Another must for the family library: all the Little House books.

5. For any girl who loves to read: a complete Anne of Green Gables Set. I've started buying another set of these for my girls because my set has almost been loved and read to death.

6. Every child ought to have access to a Childcraft set. I'm partial to the 1964 edition but there are others.

7. I've never found a box set of the All-of-a-Kind Family series by Sydney Taylor but we're slowly building a collection of these wonderful, sadly neglected books.

8. For the youngest book lovers among us. Sandra Boynton is always a hit and, even more importantly, they are so fun to read that adults can usually stand a repeat or two. (I draw the line at two. I will not re-read a book more than twice in a sitting. That's why God gave my little ones big sisters who know how to read - so they can take the "Read it again!" requests.)

9. For the history buff: Churchill's six volume set on the Second World War.

10. For the new bride. Or anyone who might want and or need a cookbook. My Betty Crocker cookbook (not this edition) was given to me by my dad when I was a teenager. It is my most used cooking reference and go-to cookbook. (Other than the internet, obviously.)

There are so many amazing books and I think they'd all make great gifts. No surprise here: books are one of my favorite things to give or get. What books would you give as gifts?
